At the age of 39, Joanne Shaw was awarded several prestigious, international, literary awards (2006–2008). For song-lyrics, she entered into a poetry contest, and was invited to read to an audience which included Nobel Prize-winning authors.
In 2008, The International Library of Poetry informed Joanne Shaw, by letter, "Your work is included in the same discussion as the greatest poets of our time, and you should be extremely proud of this accomplishment."
